I’m just starting out in a sales job selling memberships at a gym. Does anyone know a good book I can read, or a good website with good tips? Or does anyone have good tips themselves or generating leads and closing sales?

When my dad started a business in sales, he read or listened on tape to a lot of books by Zig Ziglar. He said it was the best he had ever heard or read.

A friend in sales told me that to be a good salesperson, you can’t take the rejections personally. It is part of the job, and you will fail to close the sale a lot, but keep going.

I am especially looking for information on better ways to help sway a potential client away from a service they are already using without coming across as desperate or "green".

Just avoid asking them outright to switch. Tell them the benefits of this other system and don’t put down their company. Let THEM see it.

Hiya, does anyone have any tips for upselling please especially in e-mails ?

I have just started a new sales job – never done it before so I’m struggling a bit.

Any tips very gratefully received !

well I’m only 13 so The only experience with selling i have had is candy. but i guess you shouldn’t force the product on them.Make Them feel comfortable but don’t get stepped on. And lastly don’t raise prices of whatever your selling 2 high till your selling business grows

I may be getting a promotion at work, but the position requires that I sell my company’s discount cards. I can’t sell water to a person engulfed in flames, but taking this position will eventually lead to a management position and I think that this will be good for me. Has anyone read, or heard of a good business book that helps you when it comes to selling items to customers?

The best one is a classic called "How to win friends and influence people" by Dale Carnegie. It is not a quick-fix, so you will have to take some time to read and understand it, but you will be able to sell water to a thirsty man. See a summary of the principles on the link below.

I work with a lot of sales reps, I want to understand their world more. Plus, no matter what division of business one works, learning how to sell can only help.

I’m looking for a book or (preferrably) a free online resource, how-to website on how to sell, what makes people buy, etc.

I once heard that of these three things: trust, knowledge and like-ability, that like-ability is the trait most likely to generate a sale. I’m looking for general info like that.

I’ve never had a sales job but would like to learn more.

Thank you and have a great day!

Gitomer is a remarkable guy. I’ve heard him speak at a number of conferences. His website has many free resources and you can probably find his books in the library. He’s a little wacky, but his techniques produce results.
